DunkMalaria.org , in association with Hedge Funds vs. Malaria and the Free Africa Foundation are pleased to announce the sucessful distribution of bednets and initial mosquito spraying in thee "Malaria Free Zones" in Ghana, Africa. These three villages represent the first of what we hope will be many new battles in the war against African malaria. Malaria, the world's largest killer of children, is responsible for millions of deaths per year yet receives very little attention in the West. A number of malaria fighting organizations have teamed up to begin distribution of bednets, which have been proven to dramatically reduce infection for only a few dollars per child, directly to African villages in order to stop the spread of this horrible disease. George Ayittey, Distinguished Economist, American University and President of the Free Africa Foundation travelled to Africa in 2005 to research possible Malaria Free Zones. You can read his compelling description of his travels. More recently, Dr. Ayittey travelled to Ghana in order to distribute bednets and oversee the spraying of three villages, comprising some 5,800 villagers. You can view pictures of the event here . We hope to have many more opportunities to help in this fight. You can help! Join DunkMalaria.org for our first annual Malaria Action Day on March 19th. Get more information at DunkMalaria.org .
